Does anyone have any comparisons between the two or criticism of the HCSB? I've read many of the positives of the HCSB and like it myself so far but I always like to hear from the other side. I'm aware of the gender rendering differences so that isn't as important with critique unless you think something is really off.

TC has pointed out that HCSB uses I or my life instead of soul. He likes the latter.

Never heard about that translation - that's not surprising.
Is it a paraphrase translation, or literal word for word like the ASV

Here is a good post on it.

Interesting read.

I may wait for the 2009 edition but in the mean time I'll do more research on that translation.

Jeff, I would have loved for the HCSB to use "brothers and sisters" instead of mere "brothers."

Even those who use translations with just "brothers," address their mix audiences as "brothers and sisters," because that is what the Greek means.

I agree on that one. What's annoying with NRSV is they have a footnote every single time (!) they say brothers and sisters.
