| Luke 22:36 NRSV He said to them, "But now, the one who has a purse must take it, and likewise a bag. And the one who has no sword must sell his cloak and buy one."
Luke 22:38 NRSV They said, "Lord, look, here are two swords." He replied, "It is enough."

Swords are used to hack people into small pieces _________________ My Blog - http://www.theologynow.net |

| The "sword" is an allegorical reference to the Bible, e.g. the word of God, right? That's a great reference verse for those of us with more than two Bibles to consider... _________________ ElShaddai Edwards http://heissufficient.net |

I like the YouTube video. That could apply to a lot of things. Jeff _________________ http://www.scripturezealot.com |

Probably, but I have no idea - my whole post was tongue in cheek. You can do so many weird things with allegory - two swords, two commandments, two words of God.
Seriously though, I do take the two-edged sword proceeding from the mouth of Christ in Revelation 19 as an image of the gospel message, the word of God. It's one way to argue that we're not yet to the millennium (if you read Revelation in sequence) - Christ is still conquering with his "sword". _________________ ElShaddai Edwards http://heissufficient.net |

| Sorry I totally missed the tongue in cheek thing. I wasn't paying attention. The two swords thing was good.
Hebrews 4:12 HCSB For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any two-edged sword, _________________ http://www.scripturezealot.com |

| Just checked a commentary. Jesus includes swords in a list of items for travelers to take with them. In Roman times, a sword was carried by travelers as a means of self defense against robbers. It brings to mind one of my favorite Clint Eastwood quotes:
"You just shot an unarmed man!" "Well I guess he should have armed himself."
Verse 38, when Jesus replies, he is saying that he is done having the conversation. Perhaps implying that the disciples misunderstood him originally. _________________ \_ My blog: Discipulus Scripturae |
