I dont know if he'll do a good job. I dont know if he's religiously a wacko... but it seems so important for us to have a leader with the appearance of confidence and strength. I wonder if he would be the only one who could at all restore credibility to our nation across the world....

well said. i'm not sure I agree with anything about obama, but I do wonder just how important that appearance of confidence and strength is... might be seriously significant...

wouldn't it be better if he was confident and strong, rather than just appear to be? and what do we want him to be strong and confident about?

you cant keep asking more questions! or i suppose you can... you know being opinionated you can start a few threads of your own.... no pressure... i just feel bad that they've all been started by me thus far...

what I'm arguing is he may be both strong and confident, though i'm not sure I'm going to agree with any of his policies.

i want him to be strong and confident about the U.S. as a nation, to present us as a strong and powerful nation with responsibilities we aren't afraid to keep... but we'll see.

It would be nice for the world to not see us through the eyes of a bumbling president with a funky accent for a while. (as much as I have frankly liked bush)

Speaking as someone (married to an american) from across the world... there is pretty much nothing America can do to retain its credibility any more.

Its sad but true

(notice I said "america" not "americans")

It took my wife a couple of years to realise that people _do_ actually see America as it is characterised in the movies etc.

Then you go and make an actor president, then a pervert, then a dunce, and prove all the characterisations true.. If it wasnt for the fact that when America goes kaput the world economy will go kaput too, no one but americans would care what happens in america Smile

I guess thats why we signed a free trade agreement with China...

my residence isn't in the states either, though I am an american. I was shocked the longer I lived outside the states to see just how much propaganda we actually have in the states... i was confused. but yea... jealous of your scenery... i live in one of the most polluted cities in the world... i see the sun about 10 days a year and NEVER see green in my cement jungle... jealous.
couple of kiwi friends here tho. and they do alright.

I think the Clinton's or Obama will fair much better on the int'l political scene than McCain ever could. I just can't vote for more of the same Republican bungling of everything.

I couldn't disagree more, but I don't really care too much since my mind is made up already.

heh, closed mindedness in a theologian? *shock, horror, probe!!!*

You can disagree, but since you are not outside of the USA (i suspect, anyway) then your opinion doesnt really count Razz

The nomination 'thing' isn't a fiasco. It is normal for the process to run the full course, even if it hasn't in the last few election cycles. I think the stakes are high, and the media is blowing things out of proportion. What else is new? I have lived overseas and have friends and family abroad, but I have spent most of my life in the US. And finally, I am not a theologian nor close-minded; just don't allot much time for politics, haha.

I stand (or currently sit) corrected (but then, anyone who studies the bible (professionally or not) is doing theology, right?)

Although, it certainly seems like a fiasco over here... two people from the same party fighting each other for the one job, publicly.. dirty tricks, name calling, insults, etc.. ick.
