So what do you guys think about this thing about the idea of praying to saints. The same idea is that you put a statue of some saint in the ground when you're trying to sell your house.

Roger's Idol thread got me thinking about this

I think it is a sin to pray to saints. We should pray to God directly.

Praying to saints is praying to God, in the long run. Eliminate the middlemen. After all, I don't think the saint-revering branches insist you MUST pray to intercessors. You'd have to eliminate the Our Father if you did.

Let's take it one step further.

Praying to Mary.

There are sects within the Catholic church that embrace the Co-Redemptrix theology.

Personally this is heresy, but if praying to mary is heretical wouldn't it be the same for saints. God is after all a jealous God
Quote:

Exodus 20:4 -6
4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand {generations} of those who love me and keep my commandments.

I've withheld my personal view on this to allow some more conversation, but as you can, my perspective on this topic starting to peak out Smile

Jesus is the one and only intercessor, if we pray to anything or anybody else, that by its definition is idolatry. I think the church took a very wrong turn when it started this whole saint thing, along with the eastern orthodox denomination with the issues with icons as well.

absolutely
praying to mary is not only heretical its also just weird.
but saints and idols alike. they all weird me out... avoid them (as a general rule)

its like praying to ancestors which we all know is just downright wrong and i imagine has something to do with why there is any saint prayer at all - it was like christians wanting to pray to "good by their own merit" ancestors... which in itself is a fallacy...
