I stumbled upon a small company that I may switch too. Not that I'm displeased with my current company but I am looking to be a better steward of my funds. I'm paying > 200 a year where as the new company Little Oak Hosting Seems to offer about the same level of services for a lot less.

$25 for the entry level package and 80 for the next step up. I haven't decided yet but I am curious as to what you guys run on now (if you have a web host that is). Another forum I lurk at has quite a following for little oak which piqued my interest.

Used to be on pair.com and now on pairlite.com. Highly recommended. Rock solid. Support is mainly by email and it's pretty much for people who know what they're doing.

I have a client on lunarpages.com which is also very good.

Good site here:

I've heard good things about lunarpages as well.

little oaks hosting has a 30 day guarantee so I'm moving some stuff over there to see how it responds. I own theologynow.net AND theologynow.org so I'll set up the .org domain on the new host and compare/contrast the two for speed, ease of installation, etc.

Its funny, I wasn't in the market for a new web host but stumbling on this one means I save well over 50%. Its tough to beat 80 dollars a year, get unlimited domains, 800meg, and 16gb bandwidth. I've been told by people who do use them, that they do not oversell, so when a server approaches capacity, they buy a new one. Spending over 200 doesn't seem to make sense given my needs and all.

My storage requirements are over 200 meg which is the lowest package. If I could squeeze my stuff in there, I'd only pay 25 bucks a year but I'm well over that threshold.

In case anyone cares here's a little status.

I've spent two solid days trying to get another site up and running on the new web host. The first problem was dns issues, I changed my domain's name server to littleoak's hosting name server but after 12 hours the site was still unavailable. Support came to the rescue and deleted/re-added the domain.

Second problem, I was unable to get movable type installed. No matter what I tried, it was not working. There's a combination of programs that they must use that re incompatible. I had support there working on it all day today.

While I saw glowing, reviews of support, I entered the ticket in about MT this morning, I finally got notified around 1:00pm. A little too long for my taste.

They seem decent enough people, however the cost savings does not justify the headaches of moving over to a new host and converting my blog over to another application.

As my original post said, I'm generally happy where I'm at so I'll stick with them. If I thought I'd be getting a better deal without taking a hit on service, then I'd be willing to jump ship.

I'm on bluehost now - just switched about a month ago after a couple of years on hostway. Bluehost has a 1-click, ~30 second WordPress install that couldn't be easier to use for hosted blogs. I have a handful of those, plus a couple of other sites that I maintain.

Hostway's personal plan didn't include any database support, so I couldn't use wordpress or do any database integration with my other sites - time to switch!

i wonder if you had started there instead of trying to move there if it would have been a much easier process... do you still have the hosting or have you cancelled it? if you still have it... you should try a fresh install of MT (maybe its still not doable, or maybe thats what you already did)...
i'm just curious how it would go.

i looked at it closely because you mentioned it...
but i'm still so happy with my free hosting - both for this forum and my blog - that its hard to justify spending money.

Definitely you hit the nail on the head.
LittleOaks is a good hosting company with fine support. I did wait an extended time for them to get back to me, but after that they were like a pit bull trying to figure out a solution.

It just so happens that my current web hosting company is setup in such a way I was able to easily install and configure movable type without any major headaches. If I had, I would have gone the wordpress route.

I'm still have a hard time paying > 200 bucks and so I'm still debating the issue. If that means jumping back over to wordpress so I can save 120 dollars a year I may.

I've had some bad luck with bargain basement web hosts before and while littleoaks doesn't fall into the same category, I am careful in selecting something that will provide a great web experience, good webmail and consistent uptime
