| I have really enjoyed all seven books of the series. The negative reaction of some evangelicals has puzzled me greatly. It is a fantasy story, not much different than the classic childhood fairy tales, and good prevails over evil by people making good, moral and courageous choices.
Anyone else enjoy the series? Have issues with it?

Years ago when I had a desk job in a cubical I listened to one of the Potter books on tape. It was ok, but I really don't get into fantasy stories. For fiction, I love murder, legal, and horror books.

A Steven King fan by any chance? I know the serious scholars in this forum will scoff at my low-brow taste, but I've enjoyed a number of his books, especially The Stand. The Stand has a very religious theme, where basically a weaponized virus gets loose and wipes out the vast majority of mankind, but the remaining people are drawn into two camps, basically the "good" focused around an elderly Christian lady, and the "bad" drawn to one of satan's servants. A classic good vs. evil story with an unsettling view of how civilization falls apart... and comes together.
I tend to stick with fantasy for fiction, and history/biography for non-fiction.

==I like some of King's works but I am not a "fan". I am a fan of Dean Koontz and John Saul. My favorite King novel was Dreamcatcher.

Both him and Rowling. King's Dark Tower series is fantastic imo, as is the Harry Potter series. |

Yes! The Dark Tower series is wonderful. I've read them all twice now. I know some think King is a shlock writer, but I hang on to the rich imagery he paints, and I love the way he wove The Stand and other works into the series.
I don't know why, but I don't know anyone who has read the series. Even friends who claim to be Steven King fans.
